So A Day To Remember have released What Separates Me from You on April 23, 2010. This album marks a new direction for the band who released their self-titled debut album back in 2005. The new direction of this band is evident from the first notes of the opening track ‘Scream Out For Change’. The song begins with those familiar atmospheric synth sounds and the typical three part harmony vocals that are so characteristic of this band. As soon as singer Jeremy McKinnon starts singing, you realize that this will be a very different kind of album. Although Jeremy is his usual passionate self throughout the whole album, he also seems to be questioning himself and his place within this world.
This questioning theme continues through all 11 tracks on this album including covers such as Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit and Pearl Jam’s Jeremy on piano singing Smells Like Teen Spirit Alone! So what is it that separates me from you? I ask myself almost every day, but then I realize…I wouldn’t know how to answer that question if I had to honestly answer it right now. It’s not something we can put into words or even explain…it’s something you just know when you feel it or when you don’t feel it anymore
